Bonnie... August 11, 2009 7:19 PM

Because we are now in touch with many of our Nica friends, I thought I would share a "Nica" moment I experienced on 9/11. I was at work when news hit that New York was under attack. Rumors around the office were flying, among them, that the 3rd plane was headed for Kentucky....As I'm sure happened everywhere, we gathered, talked, speculated and held New Yorkers in our thoughts. When I returned to my desk, I saw an email from Chola Venerio which I promptly opened.
It stunned me. Then it angered me, The email started out making fun of the USA for letting this happen. I shot out of my chair and went into a friends office and blew off steam... "How dare anyone make fun of this country 30 minutes after being attacked" yada, yada, yada. I went back to my desk, and with the greatest self-control, finished reading the email. It went on to say that "no terrorist attack of this kind could ever happen in Nicaragua because no airplane had ever left the Managua airport on time!" "No terrorist would be able to coordinate such an attack because no one ever knew what time a flight would leave". The jist of it was poking fun at tthe inefficiencies in Managua, not intended to be hurtful to Americans in any way! I shared it with those around me and we all ended up laughed until we cried. In the end, It provided levity at a time when we were all shell shocked!
Chola, I doubt you still have this email. I think most in this group would now be able to appreciate this bit of Nica humor....
Just as an aside, my oldest son was on the phone with his counterpart in the 2nd tower when it was hit.....
Maybe soon I will run out of Nica memories to share!
