Monte Tabor... you "regulars" referred to it as The Ritz. I was there 4 or 5
times. I remember hearing something scandalous about the priests but just some
comments that were made, I didn't witness anything. I was thinking it involved
young boys, but maybe it was nuns AND young boys!
I remember that if you dated a Nicaraguan girl you were likely to be accompanied
by a chaperone, apparently for good reason.
Dennis may have been between you and I in age. One time at Nejapa CC, when he
was 14 and I was 16, he remarked to me that some Nicaraguan boys assumed that he
was homosexual because he told them he was still a virgin at 14. I heard
stories of Nicaraguan men taking their sons to prostitutes as a rite of passage
around age 12. No wonder they sent a chaperone with their daughters.
I met General Somoza one time and he gave me this huge back-slapping bear hug
(is it called abrazo or something like that?). When he was murdered I thought,
gee I considered this guy to be some kind of national hero, now I find out he
was a tyrant propped up by our government, who sent my dad down there to train
troops. I had already lost my innocence over Vietnam, so that just confirmed
that I was clueless as a teen.
I think we're in the process of writing a screenplay! Wouldn't all this make an
interesting movie?
I'm attaching some photos. I don't have one handy of me in Nicaragua, but I wore
glasses all my life until last year when I had cataract surgery. They removed my
my old cloudy lenses, put bright new prescription ones in, and voila, I can see
perfectly. I still reach for my phantom glasses sometimes in the morning when I
wake up. Anyway, in the 1971 picture I'm wearing contacts. Isn't the hairstyle
so '70's? I keep that one in my desk drawer to show some of my younger
co-workers that I wasn't BORN old. I tell them , "yeah, back then I could get any
woman I wanted" LOL I'm such a liar.
The fuzzy one, me with an armful of kids, is one of my favorites. Far and away
the happiest times of my life.
The last one is at Rees's wedding last year (the redhead). He has a baby
daughter named Jordan and he turns 30 tomorrow. OMG
I didn't like to use those LOL and OMG and BTW tags until recently but I finally
gave in. My favorite is ROFLMAO (rolling on the floor laughing my ass off). You
can expand it to ROFLMFAO but that would be crude LOL!
