Do any of you remember our Librarian Bessie Graft driving thought the streets of Managua on her 3-wheeled-covered motorcyle? She drove like a bat out of hell but she was one of my favorites....She must have been the first conservationist ever because she could run that thing for a week on a thimble of gas....
The other funny I was remembering since Bruce is taking us kicking and screaming (and laughing) down memory lane.... The year I took the required course on Don Quixote with Doc Bizbee (I can still recite some of that..."En un lugar de La Mancha, cuyo nombre......) my Dad had dropped me off and I was walking from the elementary part of the complex to the highschool. There was a part that was not paved and there were puddles along the way. All of a sudden Dr. Bizbee jumped out in front of me and said in Spanish (but I'll put it in English for the Gringo's benefit): My Dulcinea!! You must not dirty your feet by stepping in puddles!! Allow me to throw my coat over this puddle for you" .....and with that he whipped off his coat, threw it on the puddle and held me by the arm as I stepped on his coat over the puddle. Me, I started looking around to make sure no one had witnessed this luncy and the fact that I had participated in his Quixotic delusion...Now you tell me....Who does this???. He was not right! If I recall correctly, he was fluent in 9 languages and was actually quite brilliant. Tootsie, do I recall he was on the Andreadoria when it sank? Maybe this is when he developed "Quixotic issues".
Did you Gringo's have to take the 1 year course of Don Quijote and then the 1 year course of El Cid Campeador???? Talk about overkill!!
